Reflections

An absolutely stunning morning - the kind of morning I come here for...silence, stillness, water like glass, reflections that could be abstract paintings...the warm sun on my back as I sit on the dock with my coffee.

I have only been here for a couple of days and already I am feeling more relaxed and somewhat contemplative.  This place is good for the soul..

A laid-back day but not devoid of "events"...a long FaceTime chat with my friend Mary in the Maritimes who called to talk about the state of the world..heh heh..at the precise moment when I wanted to talk about the state of the world! Amazing how we think alike! And of course, I also picked up a couple more book recommendations from her - as I usually do.

Then, of course, it was "Let the Games Begin" time and there went my afternoon, glued to the TV. Now that was a really different Opening Ceremony, right?   Wow.. what a production! And talk about raining on someone's parade! The French are certainly not averse to taking risks...Imagine putting all that together and then hoping for good weather? And getting an all-day rain? But the show went on.. Amazing.

So many awesome performances in that opening ceremony...so hard to pick a favourite...but one that left goose bumps for me was Celine Dion singing the closing song from the Eiffel Tower. Having recently watched the documentary about her illness and the loss of voice control that came with it, seeing the devastation she felt at not being able to sing like that again, and the determination she had to overcome it and sing once more.... and then that performance?  Whew!  Goose bumps.

A most eventful and thought-provoking day...
