Ottawa
Having arrived in Ottawa yesterday evening, today I woke in the Ottawacker house. Breakfast in the garden with him and Jr was a great way to start the day. After a car tour around Ottawa, and across the river to get the view back from Gatineau, I explored the city centre on foot. For a canal-lover, it was great to see the magnificent Rideau locks.
Following a liquid lunch with the Ottawacker and Jr, we toured the arboretum and experimental farm by car, before returning to the house. There Jr showed me his Flight Simulator skills while the Ottawacker cooked. After eating in the garden, we came in and watched some highlights of the first day of the Olympics.
I'd forgotten that Ottawa was the capital of Canada, but it's not the large government buildings that impressed me, but the open vistas created by the city's rivers and canal. It's also been great to wind down after the conference, and chat about anything but maths for a day!
