Monday: Teasel Flowers
We were up early as our daughter was catching an early train back to her home down south, after taking her to the station MrD was also on deliveries today.
I had a fairly slow start, sat outside drinking coffee when the sunshine fell onto the teasel and I suddenly realised that one stem had a flower - temperature in the low 20s and it felt humid and heavy.
Started clearing the top garden under the black elderberry, mostly cutting back spring growth of assorted cranesbills, red campion, Jacob’s ladder, purple toadflax which went into the compost bin. I scraped the first part of the top path too - throwing the soil back onto the garden so that the birds can scratch around for seeds and insects and worms :-)
When it was a little cooler late afternoon I planted the crab apple plants from yesterday into a large pot along with clumps of thyme grown from seed. Potted up clumps of lavender seedlings into a terracotta pot and potted on cabbage “Golden Acre” and Swiss Chard “Rainbow” seedlings into larger pots - still protected in clear plastic boxes, so many slugs around.
Watched bits of “Spooks” and “Death in Paradise”
