Dogless
Django spent much of the today at the vet's, since he had developed an abscess in his neck. The cause was traced to a grass stem that had pierced his skin. Apparently it's not uncommon, and thankfully A had re-started the pet insurance a few months ago.
Earlier, I'd got up at 08:30, after sleeping very deeply for ten hours. Hence I had the energy this morning to finish the review of a paper, and choose the specification of the new workstation for the HiGHS office. Other admin occupied me after lunch until 15:00, when I relaxed by watching the end of the Olympic men's trap final - which had a format to make a possibly dull event much more watchable.
I needed to relax, as И and I were participating in a "tech talk" at 16:00 that was going to be intense and unpredictable. After a 10-minute presentation by our friend R about his company's use of HiGHS, there was a 20-minute Q&A with us. R asked the first five questions, and then we took them from the "chat". It went OK, and it will provide more promotional material when the recording is ready to share. И and I then had our own debrief, during which I read the CV of a PhD candidate who looks more than interesting! I then got my first look at Django, who has two drains in his neck, and was feeling very sorry for himself.
After all that, I needed to unwind, so I went out for a walk - alone, because Django shouldn't go for walks at the moment. It was such beautiful end-of-afternoon weather that, after touring the centre of Penicuik, I went out into the Estate, where I was over taken by a mate who didn't recognise me - because I was dogless...
