Sally Mair - Loving life

Jazz Festival

Colin, Lisa and Drew are at the Jazz festival today. I'm not so good in crowds, so I'm relishing having a day by myself. I had a long lie, a leisurely breakfast and shower then did the necessary research to find out how to catch a bus downtown. Mission accomplished I set off. Sadly the hourly bus was 30 mins late due to the heavy traffic caused by the Jazz Festival.
The bus stop had no shade so I stopped under a tree in the very wide central reservation of the dual carriageway. The view in the middle towards the bay was taken then. The temperature is in the mid 90's and there is a health alert for senior citizens and I'm waiting for a bus at noon! Mad dogs and Scots women! The good news is - the two Newport town buses are free from 1st June till 31st October!
I walked about ¾ mile in Newport to a shop I wanted to visit but failed to buy anything. On the way back I bought myself a "Short stack with bananas" the third image. I love pancakes!
I wandered along in and out of a few more shops and bought myself a freshly made strawberry ice cream. I opted for the kiddy cone which was just as well as it melted so quickly in the sun! I headed off for the bus station where, thank goodness, there was an A/C waiting room and also some shade. Again the bus was delayed but I couldn't really complain, it was free after all. By the time I got home, Lisa had returned having had enough. She'd taken a water taxi from the festival back to the town. The garden picture is of Drew watering his tomatoes, as you can see one plant was so heavy with fruit that it had bent right over. The final shot is of an osprey in a tree in the garden - how can I not take a picture of an osprey in a tree in the garden.
Friends of our hosts visited this evening, with whom we really hit it off, we had pizza and champagne! We are so lucky to have such good friends half a world away .
