Large bird reserves like Leighton Moss need a lot of work to keep them in good condition. Much of the water has been drained from this lagoon to allow access to the macjinery
I am not quite sure what they are doing here. It may be that they are removing silt to maintain depth. Or possibly they are building another island for nesting.
The birds had naturally gone. But in the adjacent lagoon there were Avocets, Egrets and Herons.
