Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Wasn’t like that in my day!

Another bright sunny morning! This really IS summer 2024! (We’re quite easily pleased this far north…)

Today we gathered up our evidence of the unsatisfactory - nay - botched electrical job in the bathroom, done in 2018, but hidden behind the walls and ceiling. We had the electrician’s original notes, photos and the invoice to show them.

Of course, they say that they can do nothing - we should have given them the option to fix it all, and not gone ahead and got the job done. But we had a young, self employed electrician, who’d come out for an urgent job, done a thorough recce - how could I then say ‘Thanks, but we’ll give the job to someone else…’

Anyway, we’ll see what proposal they come back to us with. The manageress we’re dealing with is the same person we dealt with originally, which is good.

We were in the West End, a part of town we’re rarely in, so we had a walk around a few streets - there are several rather nice little independent shops, and little restaurants. Archie and I had a sit down while JR did a quick browse.

I then took the bus home, but the others wanted to go along George Street, their favourite shopping street, where most of the shops are dog friendly, AND give doggie biscuits. In fact, Archie will not walk past LuluLemon - he knows exactly where the big jar of treats are. Archie gets LOTS of compliments on his good behaviour, with people saying that they couldn’t take their dog shopping!

Olympics this afternoon included that crazy sport where people are lined up sitting in their tiny toy canoes and are suddenly tipped into the raging torrents below from a great height, and paddle like mad down the white water, avoiding obstacles.

Hockey is a violnt dangerous game nowadays. Not in my day!

And Ping Pong!!! There are no words.

It’s my last night sleeping in my goggles!!
