Meeting a fellow Mackam
I went to our post van to post a parcel of charity knits. They are going all the way to St Ives so I wondered if Trixie might know the lady who distributes them. She is called Jackie Westwood.
The friendly postman was helping an elderly customer back to her car. The van steps are very wobbly. (Bring back our Post Office!)
We got chatting and it turns out that we were both brought up on the south side of the river in Sunderland. He is ahead younger than me.
He used to skip school a lot to do cross country running. We agreed that my Dad would not have chased him because Dad’s schools were on the north of the river! (My Dad was an educational welfare officer.)
He wondered if I had frequented Annabelle’s but my parents would have never allowed such a thing. He used to manage it, back in the day.
By the time I had posted the parcel we were the best of friends. I have left all the notices in the image because they give context.
Has anyone else noticed that the Phone Book has disappeared online? I still use it regularly to look up post codes, at least, I did!
