Risk

Last night was a disaster sleep-wise: I went to sleep at 01:00, and woke completely wired 45 minutes later. After an hour I gave up trying to get back to sleep, and started work, finally feeling tired at 05:30. Thankfully I slept in until 09:30.

The day was spent on easy work, and in the afternoon I found out that an administrator had found us a venue for next year's HiGHS Workshop. It's better than the place we had this year, but then I learned that I had to do a risk assessment. It's hard to imagine a less risky activity than an alcohol-free meeting of 80 professionals listening to talks on optimization software. In the end, I played the game, explaining carefully how we'll mitigate all the suggested risks - rather than challenging that meaningful risks existed.

After eating, I went out to walk Django, and watched the Olympic 1500m final on my phone. What a great race, with a worthy winner, a fine performance by Kerr, and no medal for Voldemort! Can't mention the Olympics without acknowledging Sky Brown: such a star, and brave with it!
