Viva
This morning was the viva of my MPhil student M, and it took three hours! Although the examiners said that they enjoyed reading the thesis, they clearly didn't have anything else that they'd rather be doing this morning! As supervisor, I can say nothing, so I was glad to mute myself, switch off my camera, and follow it vaguely whilst I got on with light work tasks.
A's cousin and her partner arrived at lunchtime, but they soon dashed off into Edinburgh, leaving me to battle with setting up a Revolut business account for my company. It allows you to work in more than one currency, and I had to list the countries in which I might do business. The USA, Canada and New Zealand were fine, but after selecting Bulgaria I got a query about the nature of my business there! I tried to explain, but got not further, deleted the country from my list, but the query remained. Finally, after I pointed out that I'd deleted BG, it went through. It was fun for an afternoon, but I don't want to spend my life doing this!
With A having gone into Edinburgh to eat with her visitors, in the evening I walked Django and watched the men's 400m final before getting back home: another US athlete springing a surprise to defeat a favoured Brit. The USA certainly knows how to prepare athletes for major competitions!
