Dundee
We took a train trip to Dundee.
Luca’s first time on a train she was a bit wary of the drop between the platform and the carriage but did leap on. Just a short trip, and using our Senior railcard!
Of course we needed a coffee so we jumped on the No 22 bus from the town, to Annfield Street to E18, we’ve been to its sister shop before in Perth Road so know the coffee and pastries are v good. It was a lovely day so we sat outside in the sunshine.
Walked back into the city centre, around 25 mins and stopped at Clark’s bakery shop for a takeaway ciabatta and bagel and two cakes. Clark’s are a Dundee institution - open 24 hours a day and famous for their pies, birdies and pastries (of the savoury variety). We walked to the Slessor Gardens and found a seat in one of the individual gardens which was nice. No marauding gulls either !
I had booked to attend the exhibition at 1:30, Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk at the V and A. I actually like the building, inside and out, I also like a big space and there were a few other exhibitions on. I know lots don’t like it , personal taste.
The exhibits were amazing. I was gobsmacked at how beautifully preserved the embroidery on Kimonos from 1700’s were. I learned so much too. I loved how the Kimono that the lady in the picture was wearing was exhibited there and it was stunning. The framed picture was Bjork’s album cover and the kimono next to it was worn by Freddie Mercury. It was very well set out and wasn’t busy so no annoying noisy people lol! Didn’t need my Loops.
Met up with S and Lucca at the front they were sitting at the chairs looking over the Tay. And lots of children enjoying the sandpits and the waterjets. We popped in to Janetta to get gelato. One tub four flavours two spoons (thankfully not wooden as I can’t use them), wild cherry, pistachio, mint choc chip and tiramisu. Wonderful.
Train home at 4, bus up the road. Tea and then athletics.
Busy but good day out.
