Diary of an Edinburgher

Chariots of Fire

Sunny day, more Olympics, JR doing 1,000s of steps and barely sitting down all day, me watching sports and barely NOT sitting down,… just the usual kind of day.

But I got a follow up phone call from Optical Express, one week after the deed. I asked about bending down, as this has been a bit of a problem, not to mention a nuisance, all week. I haven’t been able to take Archie out for a walk on my own, as I can’t bend down to pick up poos. But I’ve got the all clear for bending down now! So I took him out round the Links, while JR relaxed. No, actually, she made her special porridge loaf, full of goodies like nuts and sultanas. Yum yum.

This is a new sign in the Links. Eric Liddell famously won the 400m race in the 1924 Olympics, 100 years ago, in Paris! His Scottish parents were missionaries in China, but he came back to Edinburgh to attend university. 400m wasn’t his specialty race - that was the 100m, but that race was scheduled for a Sunday, and Liddell, being a staunch Christian, refused to run. A story famously retold in ‘Chariots of Fire’.
