I enjoy visiting Alstonville, a 30 minute drive from home, as we did today. It has many historic buildings, dating from the late 1800s. Logging and timber milling were the main reasons for colonial settlement in the area. Sadly, little remains of the vast subtropical rainforests that once covered the region. The attractive timber house in the foreground is now occupied by professional offices. In the background is St Bartholomew's Church, opened in 1915 and heritage listed.
