Portmeirion…
It’s impossible to visit this part of Wales and not visit Portmeirion, so today we did.
We didn’t really know what to expect but we weren’t disappointed. We were however bemused, impressed, amused, confused, and stunned by the place, although I must confess we did spend the vast majority of our time there open mouthed thinking WTAF?!! I think it’s probably the most bizarre place we’ve ever visited! And judging by various conversations we had with other visitors, we weren’t alone.
One American couple we spoke to said they’d been wandering around open mouthed trying to make sense of it all. “I keep asking myself why this place exists and how?” the man said, “now I don’t care. I’m just happy it does!” :-))
Sadly the sun wasn’t shining so we didn’t get to see it in its full riot of colourful glory, but we certainly got the gist. And it’s not just the buildings that stun, but all the beautiful plants too.
Coffee and scones sitting outside one of the cafes proved hilarious as the plastic cubes that served as tables were on a cobbled slope, and the plastic trays slid off! D just managed to catch our tray of goodies before it crashed to the ground!
On the way home we stopped to explore the town of Criccieth on the way home. Despite the dull day and cool temperature there were still some hardy people in the rather rough sea!
The weather forecast tomorrow is for showers so planning to visit PLAS GLYN-Y-WEDDW arts centre. Apparently it has a fabulous cafe. Sounds like our kind of place :-))
