Dribs and Drabs of 2014

Gene and Pacifica

Yesterday I went to the Atlantic Nationals Annual Car Show in Moncton, NB. It's the largest car show in Atlantic Canada, and boasted in excess of 2000 vehicles!!! The 36C temps didn't keep people away as attendance was also remarkable.

One of the people I wanted to meet was Gene Winfield. A legendary custom car builder of more than 6 decades, he is a metal artist and paint aficionado. He came and painted Cruella DeVil for Chad, as well as taught one of the first courses that Chad took when he became interested in building custom cars.

I didn't get to meet Gene because he was teaching ALL day. He is invited each year to the Atlantic Nationals to give a seminar or two to enthusiastic, like-minded individuals. Every time I came by his tent, he was still teaching. The man is rumoured to be in his 80's!!!!

The other part of the blip is a remake of a vehicle he built in the 1960's - Pacifica. Very cool concept, the original of which was bought by a race car driver and used as a shop truck. This one he's keeping!!!
