Sunday (Thursday)...

...because am back in work tomorrow...which will be Monday, even though it will be Friday, and my last day on Monday will be Friday for which I have a special name for...Ms.Arell knows but I won't repeat it on here ;-D

After an appropriately Sunday'esq start I went for a walk with the Family minus Eldest along the length of Woodhead Reservoir and a way beyond upto the old Rail Tunnel portals that are now closed. The path is on the old Rail bed and forms part of the Trans Pennine Trail coast to coast walking & cycling route.

Shadow is definitely not hearing very well if at all. She never smiles for the camera so the extra is perfectly normal whenever I point the camera(!) but several times we let her walk free and when wandering off in her own direction, she was oblivious when called meaning that we had to run after her and get her attention to keep her on track!

The railway line used to be a direct link between Sheffield & Manchester, joining the still in use railway at Hadfield and trundling past my house towards the city 9 miles away. The Woodhead route was closed to passengers in 1970 but remained open for a further 11 years to transport Coal from the Yorkshire coalfields across to Fiddlers Ferry Power Station near Runcorn.

Rather than pass through Manchester, this traffic would use the Apethorne Link Line through Godley, where for a year or so as a youngster I lived in a house backing onto the line and remember the coal wagons crawling past! The Apethorne Link Line was closed at the same time as the Woodhead route.

In the early evening I went to an appointment in Ashton Under Lyne and on the way back called at my parents for a cuppa. Dad definitely overdid things last week and is now paying the price for it so will be resting for a few days at least.  On the plus side Mum is getting along with the car okay.
