Abstract
This is an ICM version of the quilt prototype I put in extras the other day. It's interesting that it seems to have isolated the sherbet colors which I really like. The project itself has come to a grinding halt because my sewing machine is in the hospital.
I was busily sewing squares together today when the needle made a direct hit on a pin. The thread broke and in the process of rethreading, the bobbin thingy fell out. The bobbin thingy, I think it's called a hook, is very difficult to get back in, but I did that thanks to a suggestion from the repair man the last time I took it in. However, it still refused to work properly so I lugged it back to the fabric store/repair place where the machine doctor did his best to get it going again. He did everything I did, made some adjustments, replaced something, but still it refused to work, so I had to leave it there for him to delve more thoroughly into its innards. perform surgery.
I was tempted to buy a new machine as this one is at least 25 years old, but I will wait until I hear from the doctor. I like the fact that this machine does what I want it to and doesn't have a lot of functions I don't want. I can get it repaired a lot for the $5-6,000 it would cost to buy a new one. The main problem is how long it might be in the hospital. At least, unlike the medical doctors, the repair doctor said he would call me tomorrow with his diagnosis and I'm quite sure he will.
This shop sells a lot of high tech machines, but quilting is still basically the same process it has always been, and I think the people in this shop understand that most of their customers like to do things the old fashioned way. I suppose if I really wanted to do that, I could sew it together by hand but I don't really want to do that and it wouldn't hold up very well. There are machines which will do embroidery, but I would much prefer to do any final embellishments by hand.
It's been much cooler, but another 'warming trend' begins tomorrow.
