As if He’d just Gone Out

…and would soon return to his home with the wonderful garden. This is Broughton House, the late artist E A Hornel’s (1864-1933) residence at Kirkcudbright, Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland, UK.

One of those lovely properties in care of the National Trust for Scotland.

And it houses the world’s third largest book collections on Robert Burns, featuring Mr Hornel as a keen bibliophile.

In the garden several historical sundials indicate the True Local Time, and one offers the deep truth (in Latin), “Fugit Irreparabile Tempus” (time flees without repair).
