The Boathouse

It’s a rare night out with friends tonight - a culinary adventure to a pop-up restaurant in Anglesey. The Boathouse near Trearddur Bay  is the location, but despite us both being from the area, we have no idea where this is. Eventually we find it, down a winding single track road that leads to our destination on the Inland Sea - the area of water between the island shores and the cob/ embankment carrying the railway and A55 to Holyhead.

It’s magical and idyllic, a wooden structure with a terrace and jetty extending over the water, no other buildings within view. We sit outside with our pre dinner drinks - it’s sunny, but there is a keen breeze and before long we retreat to our table and the culinary delights of the tasting menu.

I’d already asked for a pescatarian version of the menu - which actually only means changing one course as it’s predictably weighted towards seafood - but on arrival I  also mention  the gluten issue and they’re very accommodating. The food is absolutely delicious (there’s a collage in extras) so combining this with good company and a glorious location makes for a wonderful evening.
