Islet
Absolutely barnstorming afternoon involving a boat trip from Stone Town harbour to the small islet of Nakupenda, which translates as ‘I love you’ in Swahili.
Perfectly blue water of varying hues, and soft sand to wander over. The currents were strong so the snorkelling was more of a slog than the tranquil scene implies. On the more sheltered side of the islet, facing the main island of Zanzibar, the reef is more developed and fish life is not bad for a populated area. Unfortunately there are too many disposable plates and plastic forks from the tourist boats for a truly wholesome experience lost in nature. However I still enjoyed my explorations of the coral in amongst the rudders.
