Some smoke coloured my
morning and brought a glow to
the valleys today
~carliewired
I woke up about 3:30 and couldn't go back to sleep. I wasted time on Facebook and YouTube until I could make my getaway at 5:30. Then, I was off to Mission Flats in hopes of finding some eagles.
I drove across the tracks to get this rosy shot of my mountains across the river. I continued to the end of the road where I could look back to the river and the hills on the north side of the valley. I love that glow in the river.
I turned back towards home but spied two deer along the edge of a tall security fence. The doe was on the inside, but the buck was on the outside. He was very anxious to join the female. He trotted back and forth along the fence line, finally gave up and bolted across the road and down onto the river's edge. I caught him giving a longing glance over his shoulder before disappearing into the brush.
I drove around a corner to find deer tails sticking out from the sagebrush along the roadside. I startled a mama and her two spotted fawns. They sprang up the slope to the side of the railway tracks. I parked and watched through my car windows. The doe led along the tracks browsing as she moved along. I caught one fawn pausing in the sagebrush to give me the long stare. These are mule deer so named for the big ears.
I continued on towards the bridge catching the first rays over my mountains. There were no eagles for me today but I'm well satisfied with deer!
I made a stop for some groceries and another to collect my breakfast. It should be a quiet day without a need to go to the office. It will be feet up today.
