Butterfly on Brambles
Can anybody identify this butterfly, please? The colour is deceptive as it's washed out by direct sunlight, and was actually browner than this. It's sitting on brambles. (I was picking blackberries for the first time this year.)
Although it was the insect I was photographing, there's a bonus in the leaves. A leaf-cutter (bee?) has been cutting perfect circles from the leaves. Great to see. The blackberry haul was good, too - the largest berries I've found in years. They'll be joining home-grown apples in a crumble tomorrow.
The bright sunlight appeared very late in the day; we had grey skies and fine drizzle all morning and early afternoon.
