Flypast

A shop. Some admin. Time in the garden. Lunch. Then bus into town for a hugely enjoyable event: Arias in the Afternoon. It was organised by a friend from school: he wrote the article I referenced on the 4th about the festival opening event: where to begin. Brian is a retired international opera singer and he brings together artists from the Scottish scene for these one off performances.

As last year it was held in the church at the east end of George Street. Unlike last year, the church’s name is now the New Town church. Unlike last year the audience seemed much bigger: word has probably got around about the tremendous value the ticket price is for the quality of the singing. (£10 for seniors). Met up with a few friends there and, on exiting the building passing on the pavement, other friends. Small world in a bustling city.

Back home for an hour or so then our son and I headed back in to position ourselves for the Red Arrow fly past at the start of the early evening Tattoo performance. A fly past does not happen every evening and can be cancelled due to weather. The last time we went to see the Red Arrows, low cloud stopped the flying. Today it was very gusty but they came through, a bit more over our heads than the Tattoo esplanade which caught us off guard but at least we captured something.

We heard the deep roar the other evening of the Tornado on its fly past and it may appear again. However this seems to be the only time the Red Arrows are passing over the castle this year so glad we made the effort.
