An ordinary life....

Didn’t we have a lovely time….

The day we went to Bangor :-))

Couldn’t resist singing that as we headed north for the day. It amused D immensely! :-))

With the weather much nicer than we were expecting (sunny and warm :-) we found ourselves in Bangor where we headed straight to Bangor’s Garth Pier. Half a kilometre long, this impressive Victorian pier was opened on 14th May 1896. It has a fascinating history, including avoiding complete demolition in the 1970s by one vote! Phew!

Well we’re very happy it wasn’t demolished as we had did indeed have a lovely time there and enjoyed coffee and cake from the Pavilion Cafe (which was originally a bandstand) at the end of the pier: It was a bit disconcerting to see the sea many metres below, through gaps in the floorboards of the ladies loo! :-))

From there we headed over to Anglesey via
Thomas Telford’s Menai Suspension bridge (Pont Menai), Opened in 1826. The World’s first iron suspension bridge. A very impressive structure.

Short drive to Beaumaris where we further explored (lovely place) and ended up having fish and chips (we were amused that the the fillet of haddock was from Scotland :-) in the Pier House cafe bistro, sitting outside in the sunshine. Thankfully the seagulls were more interested in people with ice cream from the shop opposite, than with us.

Afterwards we went along the much shorter pier there, enjoying the evening sun and watching a group of children catching crabs from the pier. Not sure what they would do with them afterwards.

As the sun got low in the sky it was time to head back down the Llyn peninsula and we had a very pleasant drive back to the holiday cottage. The sunset was spectacular. Any photographer on Whistling Sands this evening would be well rewarded for their efforts.

Enjoyed our last evening of peace as tomorrow Withers arrives! The weather forecast for the next three days is much improved, which is great news for D and Jim’s golfing plans for Monday and Tuesday. Woo hoo! :-))

Couldn’t decide between blipping the pier or the bridge so you get both. More pics in extras.
