Seceda and Ötzi

After a rather long drive of 2,5 hours, covering 81 kilometers over 3 mountain passes, we reached Ortisei. The starting point of the cable cars to mountain Seceda.
Parking the car was a bit of a challenge, but we managed to find a spot.

The ride in the cable car came in two 'flights'. The second one was rather spectacular. A huge cabin took us up to the summit at 2500 meters.  See the photo in the extra section.

Seceda is a 2519m high mountain with spectacular views over almost entire South Tyrol. The mountain itself is spectacular as well as it clearly shows that the earth's crust is pushed upwards here.

We enjoyed the views and lunch (yes, pizza again) and went down the way we came after a few hours.
When then discovered that my car was blocked on the narrow parking.
Almost. With a lot of steering and guidance from Annemarie, Daan and Bas on the outside, I managed millimeter bij millimeter, to maneuver my way out. I left the parking, through the barrier, backwards. Afterwards we had a good laugh about it, but at the time is was a rather stressful event.

We then went to Bolzano to visit Iceman Ötzi.
A 5000 years old mummy who was found in a glacier on the Italian-Austrian border in a glacier. Very interesting to see.
Although the mummy itself couldn't be photographed, a replica could.
That's the other one in the extra section.
More information about Ötzi.

Once we left the museum, we strolled around in the city centre. But with a temperature reaching 35C we soon agreed to go back to the car and get ready for the drive home. Another 3 hours. We took another route. More kilometers, but easier to drive. First 35 km toll road.

Around 19:30 we arrived in Cortina d'Ampezzo. Unfortunately we couldn't find a single parking place here so we drove on to San Vito di Cadore where we ended up in the same restaurant we were yesterday.

A full but beautiful day was added to this vacation.
