Feorlean

The big beach

This is Cathleen's favourite beach in North Uist - it faces the Island of Lingay and is just across the machair from where she was brought up.

There  was not  another soul to be seen on it today (though one family at the near end dunes)  but perhaps part of the reason for that is the unseasonable weather, with a gale blowing and frequent squally showers .

We took the dogs for a walk along it  before leaving .   At that time we already knew that the  ferry  was running late because of extra traffic caused by the breakdown of the vessel serving the Mailing / Lochboisdale route.

However just as we were waiting to drive on at  Lochmaddy  a trailer got stuck on the ramp with seized air brakes causing another hour's delay.  My extra photo shows the scene.

At times there was a worry that it would take even longer to shift the obstruction, but the Cal Mac staff eventually worked out a way to do it.

The knock on effect, however, was that we didn't get home  to Feorlean until 2.30 am.
