Heatwave Bird Wave
Two tiny birds flew into the living room simultaneously this morning, cheeping loudly. One hit the inside of the window and slumped stunned on the sill. I picked the juvenile blue tit up and took it outside to a bramble bush, which the birds seem to love. It was just about able to hold on but was gasping. I decided to move it out of the sunshine to the shade of the field maple hedge. It clung on but didn't try to move.
It was a lot more difficult to catch the other bird, a juvenile goldcrest. What a privilege to hold this tiny scrap of a bird in my hand. I took it out to the hedge where the blue tit was still perched motionless. I released the goldcrest right next to the blue tit and they both flew. What a relief.
I think these two must have been part of a mixed foraging flock known as a bird wave.
