El Anatsui
We had a leisurely morning before heading back over the bridge to Edinburgh for our next day at the festival. First we went to the Talbot River Gallery to see the Ghanaian El Anatsui’s exhibition. It was so interesting and well curated in the beautiful gallery. Some pieces are stitched together metal pieces such as bottle tops. Other pieces were of wood such as mansonia, camwood, opepe and oyili-oji. We loved it.
We then walked round to the book festival for the event with Amy Liptrot whose book ‘The Outrun’ I had enjoyed when it was published about 8 years ago. Amy was Orcadian born but now lives in Yorkshire. Also speaking and reading were Jen Hadfield and Roseanne Watt, poets from Shetland. Roseanne writes in the Shetland language.
We were back in time to enjoy a sunny walk by the sea, and make plans for tomorrow.
