The Stone of Scone
Jenny and I had a leisurely morning before setting off in the train to Perth. We were on a mission to see the Stone of Destiny (when I WhatsApped Mr C to tell him his reply was “Rock on”!) When on the train I had a look to see if we needed to pre-book tickets and found no availability for today.
However when we arrived at 12.30 they were calling for those with tickets for that timing and we were able to join them. It was billed as an “immersive experience”. We were in a small dark room with a short clip explaining about the students who brought the stone back in the 1950s and then a surrounding animated feature of Alexander III being crowned. Maybe it was done for children or visitors from overseas.
Then the doors opened and we were allowed in to see the stone, being kept safe behind reinforced glass, presumably in case the English wanted to take it back to Westminster Abbey.
After that we enjoyed the rest of the museum and had lunch in the very nice cafe. Unfortunately the soup was cold and the bread stale.
Back at Jenny’s we sat in the sun reading our books (Elizabeth Bowen for me) before getting ready to go out for dinner at The Wee Restaurant at North Queensferry. Jenny had mussels and I had halibut. We over-ordered the sides of broccoli and padron peppers. It was all delicious. We had affogato for pudding and I had brandy with it.
We’ve had an interesting and enjoyable day with the bonus of warmth and sunshine.
