Another Monster Mushroom

On my walk with Oreo this morning we went through the little wood nearby and I stopped to see if there were any fungi growing on the old tree trunks…I usually find some Dryad’s Saddle around there and just over a week ago I found some other bracket fungus

However, today I found this enormous white mushroom growing. I had never (knowingly) seen this before today. The cap is approximately 20cm (8 inches) across.

It was almost dark..but it stood out just enough to see it, but I needed to use the flash to light it..even so I had to increase exposure and brighten the shadows to get a useable shot. I did think about going back later with a big camera and a some speed lights to get a better shot..but sadly the dog knocked it as he ‘cocked his leg’ and a large chunk fell off.

I shall have to watch out for it again..

Tentatively identified as Volvariella bombycina - Silky Rosegill. As ever, if any blipper knows better, please let me know.
