a lifetime burning

Surviving

Today's newly emerged common darter was one of 3 that I managed to find, all desperately trying to ensure that their new wings didn't get damaged.  This one had figured out that if it was upside down and facing into the wind, it was relatively safe.  It took a while to get this shot as the amount of movement was considerable, not only was the perching leaf moving about in all directions, but various intervening leaves would also blow across and spoil the shot.  I was attracted by the light reflecting from her wings - hence today's blip, even though its getting to be a very repetitive subject!

We were also visited by a female migrant hawker, who spend a little time ovipositing around the pond.  Again, the strong blustery wind didn't really help and I'm not sure how successful she was.  I didn't manage to grab a shot that I was happy with unfortunately, the few I did get show her with just about the most uninspiring background its ever been my misfortune to have with a dragon in flight - she's investigating the gap between the barbecue and the fence!  I've included a shot as an extra to show what I mean.
