St. Lauri's Holy Well

Visiting Laurinmaki we  were interested to note that Google Maps referred to this being the location of St. Laurence's Holy Well. A very Irish sounding connection as those living on the Emerald Isle will know.

In the event it turns out that like all the Holy Wells I have ever come across there is a long pre Christian history. Like the others this was a place of pagan worship of the god Taara, which was appropriated and put to serve other beliefs when the "Christians" came to town.

Lauri's (Laurences?) church is just up the road from here. For the curious, yes the water is very clear and cold too. The insert shows the view of the well as Kirsi would have seen it from her vantage point.
