Reunited #2
(15/8/24)
I was too tired last night to write a journal for the day - which began super early around 2:30 AM when I heard a dripping sound in my room. I thought it was the fan that was sticking as it swivelled, so I switched it off, but the dripping sound was very much still there. So I jumped out of bed to investigate.
I could not believe it when I saw water dripping on my desk!! Thankfully, my work laptop was still in the waterproof case I use to carry it. I had to quickly get the monitors, USB port, and papers out of the way asap, then ran and got some towels. Whilst doing that, I heard water dripping in G's room as well, but on top of her bookcases. So now I had two areas to secure. It took a while to move the plethora of things we both have on the tops of flat surfaces, get towels and eventually buckets and put a polythene bag over G's special bookcases.
I finally called the building emergency helpline at 3:30. He sent the watchman to investigate, so, at 4 AM, I had some help. Zaheer said he would check the roof. This didn't make sense to me. I suggested he visit the flat above. I learnt around 4:30 (when I phoned Zaheer) that the problem was indeed in the flat above. They had a faucet burst and the entire flat was flooded. As it has multiple occupancy, no one had a clue. They would awake to a flooded flat! Zaheer closed the valve and eventually, around 5:10, the dripping completely stopped. I was so shattered after a short night the previous night, with an early start to the day, and then a crisis to deal with, I fell asleep until my alarm went off.
Thankfully, Nara comes on a Wednesday. I hung around to tell him what had happened and then made it to work before 10. It is Pakistan's 77th Independence Day today. I attached two of the flags I bought yesterday to my monitors and our GM treated the floor to pizzas. It's not related to anything, just something for the folk who are still around in the summer.
I caught up on a few hours of sleep in the afternoon before going out for a meal with Omnia - to a Pakistani restaurant, of course. Omnia enjoyed the food and ambience. She had to return to her pets, so we didn't stay too long. There was enough time for me to go to IKEA for a new "cool" duvet and to look at desk management. I was so glad to unpack my new duvet, hoping for an uninterrupted night, though I put the polythene cover back on G's bookcases and took the monitors off my desk!
My blip is off the box that I keep my 7 inch singles in. Thankfully, water didn't drip in that area but it made me bring it down soon. I've been wanting to look in there since the amp is working again.
