Knole House, Kent
A very hot day and C and I took ourselves off to visit the 600 year old Knole House in its medieval deer park. It is very much like a castle rather than a house and was once the home to archbishops. Henry VIII used to hunt deer in the park and loved the house so much he gave it to his daughter Mary who became Mary I. In 1603 it passed to the Sackville-West family, Earls of Dorset, who still live here today in an apartment. This is were Vita Sackville-West grew up before her marriage to Harold Nicolson, the couple then moved to Sissinghurst. In her novel "The Edwardians", Vita based the house Chevron on Knole House.
The extras are of the house, and a doe and her young.
We arrived home for a late lunch and enjoyed the rest of the day in the garden.
