High Five!

What a glorious day, using up nearly all my final extras, and now the storm clouds have set in and so has a cold. I was booked in to an art talk at the National Gallery, but at the last minute both my sister and husband had pressing engagements. My husband detected my glee, as I pulled out my film camera and started floating about all the “slow photography” I would be able to do. “It’s a secret little high five to yourself that we can’t come” observed my husband, and it was indeed.

Lots of opportunities from the bus stop, past the National Library, through all my favourite works at Reconciliation Place, past the High Court, across the bridge and then the architectural delights of the Gallery.

Another visit to the Skyspace, a chance to see Savage Klub’s side exhibition to the Gauguin blockbuster (Pacific female self-representation!), an exploration of new galleries (new to me anyway), and a sneak through the fence to see how Lindy Lee’s Ourobos (controversial $14 million purchase) is coming along.

The talk itself, on TS Eliot as inspiration for Australian artist Albert Tucker was very interesting - a sweet young male intern expounding on misogyny and modernism to an exclusively female audience.

Almost forgot - couldn’t resist as my main the Astronomer outside the national science museum (Questacon). He seems to have been copping an eyeful from the pigeons, despite those well positioned spikes.

Happy National Science Week!
