Friday: Slug Proof
Today’s Blip is by way of elaboration on the reply I wrote re. success with seedling cabbages on Wednesday.
This year I have started off seeds in the cells I bought a few years ago, protected from slugs in clear plastic storage boxes with tight fitting lids and I’ve had reasonable success so far … some slugs find their way into the boxes but I check every few days and evictions take place …!
Today’s seeds:
Broad beans “Crimson flowered” and “Sutton Dwarf”
Peas “Hurst Greenshaft” for peashoots and maybe “mange tout” or even peas, depending on how the weather behaves …
Cauliflower “All the Year Round”
Broccoli “Early Purple”
Kale “Hebridean Asparagus”, “Wild Sea Cabbage” and “Jersey Walking Stick” from seeds which I’ve fortunately kept from my plants, which have subsequently died after being damaged by some very bad weather earlier in the year. I took cuttings of both plants and was hoping they would have made good plants by now but the cold, wet and erratic weather has not helped and some of my little plants got too wet and rotted others got too dry and just keeled over - don’t try gardening if you have a low tolerance of failure!! :-(( … :-))
My day hadn’t started well, woke up with terrible stomach ache and had an uncomfortable morning, but I resorted to taking my go-to cure and (crossing fingers & touching wood) it seems to have worked … shhhhh!!
Loads of love and hugs to all my family / Cariad Mawr
