It’s that time of year again

Our tree is laden with fruit. Hundreds fall off every day. We have sacks of windfalls waiting to go to the tip. And plenty to pick up every day.

It’s prolific after a lean year last year when it was pruned. There’s too many for us to use nowadays as we no longer make apple juice owing to its very high sugar content.

We can’t really give them away either as many are maggoty as we don’t spray or use those pheromone traps. We eat as many as we can cutting out the bad bits and I’ll make some apple chutney too. Being a Worcester Permain they’re an early apple and won’t keep.

The brown bits are where the no mow May grasses grew until recently.
