Foundational!
If you're at all interested in the rebuilding of Christchurch, have a good look at what's going on here. It's innovative and ingenious. Some bright spark has worked out - on a computer - how to raise a building safely, so that men and machines can move in underneath, repile, repipe, restructure and rexxxx -whatever needs to be done. Then the building can be lowered back down onto its repaired foundations, and then the rest of the upper repairs can be effected. It's going to make a huge difference to many of the repairs yet to be done in our munted city.
Just as an amusing sideline - I don't think that they'll be trying it on my house. Although the EQC's 2012 scope includes repiling, it's actually a pole house that's built on a slope. I cannot in my wildest dreams imagine them trying out this solution here! Getting a knuckle duster boom down the drive was quite bad enough. I'm still waiting for the 2013 scope to be done. Progress is actually happening though, as a structural engineer was sent recently to assess the lateral spread. Prior to February 2011 I wouldn't have had a clue what any of the above meant!!!
Thanks to everyone yesterday for popping the Reflecting Promise up into the spotlight! It's much appreciated :)
