Spectacle

Yesterday’s postponement to the Palio due to rain worked in our favour.
We came back in the car to make sure we didn’t have a schedule to keep.
We spent a couple of hours in the piazza whilst the tension built. It took half an hour and a couple of false starts to get the horses and riders to cooperate.
It’s a proper local event that isn’t put on for tourists.
I couldn’t believe the speed of the horses - it’s like they were riding motorbikes.
Brilliant.
