The Pensioner

More of this sort of thing

A ridiculously early start for an extra event which had been squeezed into the book festival to discuss arts funding - in the wake of  the festival’s decision to no longer take Baillie Gifford’s dosh. We’d received an email the previous day that we were going to workshop the issue sitting at tables of ten, under Chatham house rules. Gagh, I was looking forward to some informed opinions, not my own ill considered rambles. I needn’t have worried as Jenny Niven did a great and lengthy introduction and the workshop was excellent. Take the money.
Off we trotted, a bite to eat, then a spin round the ECA to view their Graduate exhibition. I mean Chinese exhibition. Home and out to scavenge the brick beach for stones (where I met an African philosopher with his bike) for the garden before settling to a bit of biking about Oregon. And pizzas.
Then out again: Cat Power sings Dylan 66! Whoah. Third row. A bit of a worry when she was late to the stage… and then looked stiff and uneasy. Was she oot of it? But once she started singing… superb. The SK loved the acoustic first half; me, the full band second. At least I managed to stop her shouting Judas.
