Another bus ride today…

But not to the airport. Much better than any trip away; I was heading to the Medical Specialist Group to see the anaesthetist that will be looking after me when my gall bladder is removed.
Late yesterday afternoon I had a phone call from the MSG to say they had a last minute cancellation and would I like to see the anaesthetist this morning. Yes indeed I would! I’d been afraid that my GP requesting an urgent appointment with the gastroenterologist would result in this op being postponed so hearing it’s still on the cards was great.
But relief was soon overtaken by worry because GP had said my blood sugars were not in a good place and if I didn’t get them under control the operation may have to be postponed. I have dramatically changed my eating habits but was concerned that the HbA1c averages over 3 months so I might not be able to demonstrate any improvement in time for the op. But I haven’t had a repeat blood test yet and the anaesthetist was happy with what it showed. Phew another hurdle leapt over. When I left the MSG I walked straight down to the Mocca Coffee House and bought two chocolate croissants and a decaf iced latte to celebrate. That is a one off treat and I will be back to working on healthy eating tomorrow.
I did learn a few interesting things from him. He asked my history of operations and he was fascinated that I’d had so many procedures without even sedation; though the hip replacement and ops on my feet did have spinal block. But he seemed to take a particular interest in my breast cancer lumpectomy in 2000; especially did I have lymph nodes removed only on the side of the lump or both sides. It turns out you should avoid cannulating on the side where such a procedure had taken place. In 24 years and quite a few cannulas nobody has ever asked that before.
And that was my morning. Sorry to bore anyone who’s read this far but I use this as a sort of diary as well as photo sharing.
