Train Travel
Spent most of my morning researching traveling by train to England when we next go... hopefully, for Christmas.
The answer is that it would cost around three times as much (bit cheaper if we went from Badajoz instead of Lisbon), and that's not counting staying in a hotel for probably two nights, at least. And that's if I could get the cheapest options for each leg of the journey, which means going online at different times for different trains, but none available yet. So frustrating - why is it so difficult (and expensive) to be more ecological?
Anyway, thought for my Blip, I'd get a photo of Reguengos' defunct train station, as we were going grocery shopping there this evening.
Gratefuls:
- starting to get slightly cooler, "only" up to 37C today and tomorrow
- getting a siesta after an awful night
- Mike's sourdough that's just emerged from the oven, so need to go lightly fry good tomatoes, garlic, and basil in olive oil in my cast iron pan, a recipe I learnt from a French guy in a restaurant in Pipa, RN, Brazil; saudades!
Later... I added cubed feta, to up the protein content, accompanied with a good Alentejano red (they are all good), Coutada Velha 2022, outside in the cool, with that gorgeous moon peeking through the leaves of the bay tree, and a cube of dark chocolate with almonds, with a slug of Offley Port to finish.
And the silence… occasional sheep bells, and a background hum of insects. And good conversation, not always a given with Mike!
