The Forgotten City

After yesterday's Rome/Vatican visit, today was more of a blessing as there were far less tourists about, though the heat was as ridiculous as ever. Antica of Ostia was once a busy city(!) that got abandoned due to  water irrigation access being choked from over population and sea recess from the harbour. That said, this site is highly recommended particularly on the tourist numbers due to little being known about the place (compared to Rome). The site is very well preserved and the café is cleverly situated half way through the city as which is based on one long straight road leading to what was the harbour. It's crazy to think that the theatre in Antica is still used today as it was being set up for a music event on our visit.

The one stop return to the villa allowed us to reflect the day over a birra or two. After spotting several planes flying over and watched the sun go down, we both felt like we should be paying more attention to our home city of (Roman) Chester and not to mention many of the other Roman cities across Britain.

Happy days.
