Wheat and Barley
A few ears of each grain foraged on my trips to Garendon. The wheat ears appear more 'rounded' than the barley which is elongate with a 'cord' down the middle from which the grains sprout. The grains would normally have 'whiskers' growing from their ends but they were removed when I shoved them in my pocket.
Yesterday, I noticed that there were stands of wheat growing together with the barley. According to a Google search, the resulting crop is more resilient and higher yielding. I wonder what the crop is used for.
