Pest crosses (Pestkreuze)

Today we inaugurated our new car bike rack and took a trip over to Germany for a bike tour. It's immediately noticeable how vast the area is and we were on our own for kilometres. We passed these historic plague crosses near Emmingen. The explanation in the extras.

The most important statements: The plague crosses were first erected at the four exits of the town during the Thirty Years' War, around 1630, as a defence against the plague and perhaps also as a plague warning for travellers.
