(233) Sunny B

Way back in the days of CB radio, 'Sunny B' was the handle (name) given to the town of Burntisland. It doesn't alway live up this promise but it certainly did that today. It was surprisingly quiet on the beach, possibly due to the torrential rain in the morning putting people off the idea of going to the beach, but very peaceful for a wander. Extras today are views from Hawkcraig Point at Aberdour and from the headland beside Braefoot Bay. The wooden structure in the first extra is all that remains of a pier that was built at Hawkcraig point to accommodate a ferry across the Forth to Leith, Edinburgh. The ferry service began around 1850 and the pier fell into disuse when the railway to Edinburgh arrived at Aberdour in 1890. The second extra shows WW2-era concrete buildings in the foreground, Inchcolm island to the left, and a tanker moored at Braefoot Bay terminal, waiting to be loaded with LPG from the Mossmorran plant.
