Peace Doves
An art installation by Peter Walker currently on display in Durham Cathedral.
It’s only on until next Wednesday (4th) so having seen it on fellow blippers Kath Gordon’s blip I had to move fast to see it before it was gone.
Back in March we visited the cathedral as part of our anniversary break as I wanted to look at St Cuthbert’s shrine. I felt a bit guilty about it as I had told my friend we would take her to visit Durham as she had only passed through. Because we were staying land going on to the Lakes we couldn’t invite her along, with no Pilates today it was an ideal time to fit in the visit and see the lovely Peace Doves whilst doing it. Each paper dove has been hand made (15,000) and carry a written message for love, peace and kindness. Local communities, schools etc, were invited to contribute. It has been around many cathedrals already and is moving on to Lincoln in October.
I liked this image taken from behind the choir screen but you can see it in all its fullness suspended above the nave in the extra.
We had a coffee and cheese scone when we arrived and then walked back into town for lunch after the visit. Although it was dull we were lucky to miss nearly a the rain hitting some in the A1 back in Yorkshire on our return journey.
Chris has now gone out for a birthday drink with Alex at the local where you get a free drink on your birthday. Thanks for all your good wishes to him yesterday.
