Worrysome scams in the British Education system...
Pleasant drink yesterday with a cricketing chum, who after a long service career ( killing Afghanis ) went to work at the Dept. of Education. He has since become despairing at the inertia and lack of impact it has and left for another sphere of operation.
He reported on several concerning aspects of the education sector, arguably one of our strengths as an export industry. Aside from the over-reliance on foreign, higher fee paying, students, many courses are simply seen as a cost-effective way of ultimately getting a British passport given the right to remain, bring over family etc. He also argues that many of the less meaningful qualifications at the "lesser" establishments ( his example being the University of Bolton ) are merely a conduit to free money. Entrants get financed to do low grade qualifications and being taxi drivers etc with self-certified incomes then contrive never to hit the thresholds at which loans become repayable. Free money.
Who knows, but he certainly agreed with my suspicion that "University Vice-Chancellor" was one of the most consistently over paid and under policed offices badly in need of a shake up.
