'Bye Majorca

{backblip}

Six o'clock rise, shuffle down and out to the first of the queues then a gentle bus ride to the airport. More queues, more shuffling, up then down and back in Edinburgh by lunchtime to the biggest queue of the day at passport control. Home just after two.

If reading through the backblips makes it seem like we didn't enjoy our week's holiday in the Ballearics, it's probably not a true reflection. We did enjoy the island and the resort was comparatively quiet and realaxing. It's just that maybe the accommodation wasn't what we would've ideally chosen but, leaving it to the last minute and trying to get something that appealed to a fourteen year old and not being too long a flight away, we were swayed by the all inclusive part and the free access to the water park. It felt we were in a bit of a twilight zone when it comes to what we're looking for in a holiday with Euan feeling too old for most of the activities and it being just too loud, too in-your-face, and so jam-packed with people and a constant white noise of screaming, shouting, tantrums (the kids were noisy at time too) that it felt better to head out for some peace at times. There were times it felt embarrassing to see what impression your fellow countrymen and women might be leaving with the friendly, helpful and patient beyond belief locals that worked tirelessly to keep the place ticking over. I have no problem with people enjoying their annual holidays after working so hard all year for them, but sometimes...

When we did wander out though we did really enjoy the local area, the beach, the Port and marina, the relaxed and hassle free streets, the old town with its unhurried, uncluttered and tourist free feel and we would certainly travel back to the island of Majorca. That nice adult only hotel on the beach facing the sunset with the empty sunbeds and the four poster shaded loungers and the blissful silence might just be the ticket next time though.

Time to catch up with some journals now.

The whole self-indulgent gap plugging sequence starts back here
