Seemannia purpurascens

A new addition this year to my collection of rhizomatous Gesneriads.  It's  very tall for a house plant, the first flowers only appearing as it approaches 60cm high and it's still going.   Apparently they can get to 1.5m.   It would look good growing through other plants I think, tricky on a windowsill but it's soft growth and tender nature mean it would need an exceptionally sheltered spot to grow outside here even in summer.  It's a bit of fun and as it naturally flowers late, a welcome, if eccentric addition.

A day off spent mostly at home.   I had Bella here while Jamie went riding this afternoon and used much of the time working in the garden and on the bulb repotting.   Only scratched the surface of what needs doing but all progress is good progress.   I did make time to cook myself a nice tea for a change.  The long work hours mean I resort to ready meals quite often in summer so this was a treat ... and will feed me for another couple of days.

The weekly family chat tonight was less involved than of late.  Mum is settled back at her home now with additional carer visits now in place to help her keep regular mealtimes and morning and evening routines.   Ruth and I plan to visit her in a few weeks time and Jamie and I will do likewise later in the year.   Meg and I had a gentle walk at the edge of town as it got dark ... so much earlier already.
